I'm trying to find freelance translation jobs this summer, but I haven't yet finished my translation degree. I know companies often hire translation students in the summer because it's cheaper for them. I am from canada and my cousin is from france. She can speak no english and I can speak no french. I have found that translators such as babel fish leave us guessing as to what the other has said. I'm looking for some tips on a good translation of the phrase "je m'茅patais," in context of Rimbaud's poem "La Maline." I've looked up the word and everything but nothing seems to fit the tone of the piece... any advice?

What is the average price you would charge per source word for French-English translation?

Je le ferais gratis.|||I have paid around $0.11-$0.21 per word. Lately, I have been paying around $0.14/word. What you charge (in this range or above or below it) might depend on how large the job is and how complex it is (whether it involves scientific translations, medical terminology, etc.) You could also charge a higher rate per word (closer to $0.21/word) and not charge for repeat words, etc.
